Kelly who? NO! Kelly Hu!...

So it was one of them times where the cards were just right and the universe unfolded in such a way that nice things happen to good people. Take for instance today, July 7th 2005. I was supposed to go to dinner with a friend and eat at a Filipino restaurant in Glendale. Was looking forward to it, but as luck would have it, we didn't make it. She had to work on an "emergency" case and therefore had to back out of our dinner plans. So... as it were, I asked my good buddy Kanakakai, what he was doing and he read my mind, "Daichan's"!. In a previous post, I talked about this "magical" place, and it's great food. So I swing by kanaka's place, and pick him up, and we go...

We get there, and we're greeted by Gary, the owner, and he was already talking to a few of his customers. There were three people sitting at a table, and as we walk in, Gary looks at Kanaks and says, "Oh and he's from Hawaii too..." motioning to Kanakas. And then the conversation begins. There were two guys and one gal, a very attractive woman i might add. I did not recognize her from first glance, but was kind of familiar. So Kanakas continues and the woman introduces her company, and we say "hi" of course. Then Kanaks says, "Aren't you Kelly Hu? I met you like years ago on Maui during the 'Growing Pains' shoot." And of course, Kelly responds in like and it was off. Of course to me, I was still trying to place the name and the face. I knew who Hu was, but just couldn't come to the realization that she was here in the same restaurant as us... So I sit in befuddlement trying to make the connection.

As Kanaks and I order our food, it finally dawns on me... Kelly Hu, Miss Hawaii... Kelly Hu as in the actress... I lean in on Kanaks and ask the same questions, and with a huge grin on his face, he nods. "what the..." i think to myself. Holy crap! "Hey i have my camera in the truck, I'll go get it..." kanaks agrees and i run out to grab it. Knowing that Kanaks has no shame when it comes to pictures, we ate and waited patiently for them to leave so we could catch them as they left to take some pics. Of course as luck would have it, Kanaks gets up to lua and I'm sitting feeding my face. As i look up, they're half way out the restaurant. Luckily Kanaks is returning from his brief trip to the pot, and we grab the camera and catch them out side the restaurant. We of course ask nicely and she was completely cool to take pictures.

And there you have it... Miss Kelly Hu...
