First day back to work

Well it's my first day back to work in over three months. Back story goes like this: I was working at Warner Bros for about two years. Towards the end, I was practicing with my halau, Na Pua Me Kealoha, for a competition in Hilo, Hawaii. The competitin was going to take place, the 21st through the 24th. My departure from California was going to be on the 14th. Before reaching that date, I had heard word that the Visual FX part of WB was going to close it's doors. I was shocked and at the same time, not shocked. But what did concern me was that if I was not laid off yet, and I'm scheduled to leave for Hawaii, what is going to happen in the mean time? Well as fate would have it, a week before my departure date, the 14th, I received my walking papers, yea!
So i had my exit interview and what not, got all my ends squared away, and was ready for the next endeavor. It was kind of a relief because I didn't have the stress of work to worry about coming back to after my competition. I was stress free as far as that was concerned. I called my girlfriend, Kath, and told her the "good" news. Well she had already been planning a trip to Melbourne, Australia for her work, Red vs Blue. When she heard the news, she responded with, "Well i guess you're coming to Australia with me!" I was shocked, i'm thinking what? But she was right. All I had to do was pay for my plane trip and that's it. You see, her company had already paid for her lodging and transportation. So really all I had to do was get my plane ticket, and I was good. So, a week prior to leaving to Hawaii, I bought a round trip ticket to Melbourne, Australia!

So a brief over view here. I went to Hilo, competed, had a blast there with my Halau and Kath, then came back for a two day turn around, then off to Melbourne. Was there for a week, then back to the states. That was about a month of traveling. Then the following two months, was filled with outrig canoe racing, hula dancing, and just plain having a blast with Kath on our time off. I'll give more detailed descriptions on our travels in upcoming posts here. So sorry it's been so long that I have posted something here. But no I'm back to work....

Sadly after the three month hiatus of having fun, I realize that I need to replenish my bank account and have "bills" to pay. So my friend, Melissa, has been trying to get me to work with her at this company, CIS in hollywood. So I accepted, went through the interview process and here I am , typing this blog, as I wait for work to come down to my hands. It's a nice setup here, dark room like usual. But what's nice is that I'm wroking with people I have worked with in the past. It's great... so far! Anyways off to lunch to get more caught up with other co-horts!

Stay tuned for recaps on my Hilo and Melbourne travels!

A hui hou kou kino!
